Kindle takes EPUB now. If a website, a forum post, or an old habit is telling you to convert to MOBI first, it’s out of date — mostly.
What changed
Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and no longer accepts MOBI. Kindles themselves render EPUB natively. The decade of “Kindle means MOBI” is over — for wireless delivery, EPUB is the format.

- Send it: email it to your @kindle.com address, or use Amazon’s Send to Kindle page or app.
- It appears in your library, synced to every device on the account.
When you still need MOBI
Older Kindles loaded over USB. If you sideload onto an early device — or keep a library in the old format — you convert EPUB → MOBI, and that’s the one case where you should.
